da dobrowin: Simon Jones and Mark Wallace have been named in a provisional squad for theE.C.B
Andrew Hignell10-Jul-2002Simon Jones and Mark Wallace have been named in a provisional squad for theE.C.B. National Academy who will spend a second winter based in Adelaide.
da fazobetai: Jones and Wallace both spent last winter with the Academy in Australia, and Jones` impressive formso far this season won him selection for the senior squad for the Second and ThirdTests against Sri Lanka. Last weekend, he also helped to bowl Glamorgan to an eight wicketvictory over Essex at Swansea, after a ferocious spell of 4-8 in 16 balls in apost-lunch blitz that literally blew away Essex`s resistance.Jones` name is also being mentioned as a contender for a place on this winter`s Ashes tour.Should he miss out on the Australian tour party, his selection in this provisionallist for the Academy indicates that one way or the other, Jones is very likely to spenda second winter `down under`.
In announcing the squad, Hugh Morris, the former Glamorgan opener, who is now the E.C.B.`sPerformance Director, said, “At this stage of the season, we wanted to concentrate our mindson the kind of players who might be invited to the National Academy this winter. This is byno means an exclusive list and if other players perform well in the remainder of the seasonthen they will also be considered for selection.””The shortlist contains a number of players from the 2001/02 programme. It is consideredthat these players would benefit from a further winter at the Academy.”The provisional list of Academy players is:
