Man Utd starlet Mason Greenwood failed his big audition

Having enjoyed an impressive game against Watford last time out in the Premier League, it was perhaps little surprise to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer unleash Mason Greenwood against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

The Manchester United starlet was given a huge opportunity to make a rare start away from home, but sadly for both him and his manager, he failed to deliver on his big audition.

Whenever the 18-year-old has made the starting line-up in the top-flight, it has predominantly been in the comfort of Old Trafford. As such, getting thrown into the deep end at Goodison Park was always going to be a tall order for the young forward.

And so it proved. As per Sofascore, he only managed one shot on goal in the 72 minutes that he was on the pitch, and even that was off-target. As well as not having his shooting boots on, Greenwood failed to really get involved in the game either, registering just 29 touches and 19 passes before he was hooked for Odion Ighalo.

It was a tough day for the United academy product, and he appeared to struggle with the intensity of the game too, losing the physical challenges. Out of the eight total duels that he contested, he won just three of them, whilst one of his errors directly led to an Everton attempt on goal.

Who on earth is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure January signings?

Whilst Greenwood’s performance against Watford showed that he is absolutely deserving of playing a major role over these coming weeks, his lacklustre display at Everton on Sunday showed that perhaps he still has a lot to learn about playing away from home.

It’s something Solskjaer will no doubt have taken note of, and going forward, may look to exclusively bed him in at Old Trafford, before giving him another opportunity to shine away from Manchester.

Meanwhile, this Man Utd ace is finally proving Jose Mourinho wrong.
